When I began plans to start my own business, I was working on my company’s name. I was with my cousins and my mom and suddenly someone said Heavens to Bessie. It was perfect! Bessie was my grandmother and the creative matriarch of the family. When I was young I would spend my days with her, and we would busy ourselves creating. Dolls out of socks, Christmas ornaments out of plastic cups and door mats out of newspaper bags. Though I never caught on to knitting, no matter how hard she tried to teach me, the basic concept of creativity I got. She passed away when I was 10 years old and having my business named after her makes me feel like she is with me every day, as an inspiration and a blessing.
